There are several places in the steering mechanicals that contribute to this. First, the tie rod ends if
they are automotive type, the fix is to replace if worn and sloppy. If they are the adjustable type, the fix is to take them apart, clean and grease them
and adjust the slack out. Then, on a Super A you could have two types of vertical shafts, the old style has a square end on the bottom where the steering arm fastens on With this one its tough, the
cheap fix is cut a shim from a soup can put it on
the shaft slip the steering arm over it and tighten that bolt on the steering arm tight. The
expensive fix is to replace it with the newer
style which has a tapered bottom end with a key which is held on with a large nut and the taper
takes out the sloppiness. The next contributor to
the slop is the keyway on the shaft up inside the
gearbox where the sector gear is. worn key or keyway. Then there are the bearings and bushings
up inside the gearbox that should be replaced.
I got these on Ebay. You should be able to get
it down to about 1/4 turn of slop on the steering wheel. Check this Ebay seller for Parts If you don't find the bearing kit listed, call him he's
got them. or this site may have them. My Email is
open if you have more questions.

Common problem. First thing is to go through all the tie rod joints and check them. Then tighten up the nut on the bottom of the steering gear shaft that holds on the steering arm. This has a cotter pin and is kind of hard to get to without removing the front axle. You can tell if it's loose though if the steering arm has up and down play. If you take the axle off, replace the woodruff key that keys the arm to the shaft. Also, check the steering wheel shaft for end play. If you can move it back and forth, the ball thrust bearing on the end of the shaft needs attention. Either it needs to be replaced or adjustments made so that it is clamped tightly in place. The big plug on with the hex on it clamps the bearin in there and it's held on the shaft with a castle nut. It needs to be tight against the shoulder on the shaft. If you can't get acceptable play by all these adjustments, then you will have to dissassmble the gears and bearings outh of the steering box and replace any that are worn. I've not looked recently, but in the past there are folks on Ebay that sell the complete kit of bearings, etc that you need for around $100. Usually the gears will be good enought that you can get acceptable steering with the ones you have.

Nope its hope less send it to me. Actually it not too hard to repair. Usually loose nut on the bottom or you need to pull the arm off and the key is worn, do a form search on loose steering and the fixes will come up. Not an unusual problem on this tractor.
