I just bought 2.5 acres in Michigan and I"m considering buying an IH 184 for the lawn. Is this tractor under powered for a 60 inch cut and will it leave behind a nice finished lawn? I just don"t want to waste my money!!!

If you live near ST Johns 48879. You can come over and I will let you try my 154.
I thank it works good. Bill

Well I use a Cub 154 with the 60" deck and love mine. I wish I had the improved 184 instead.

You have to keep in mind that the 184 is a 25 yr old machine that wasn't very powerful to begin with. It certainly ain't no bush hog.

With the deck set up right, sharp blades and leveled it will do you a neat job on your lawn.

I parked my Cub Cadet lawn tractor for a new commercial 42" zero-turn machine then ended up parking it for the 35 year old 154 I picked up on the cheap at a charity auction.

I just plain enjoy dring the tractor more than zipping and spinning the ZTR. I mow about 2 acres weekly and with the wider deck the time is about the same.

This is my honest opinion, but I wouldnt do it. My 154 with the IH 60" mower was ok for the 2.5 acres I was mowing with it, but my old Craftsman 42" was faster than my 154, left a better cut and was cheaper to operate. With my 154 I was out in the yard about 4 1/2 hours, with my Craftsman 4 hours. I now have a zero turn and have cut that time in half. Now if my 154 had had the "two speed" tranny, then I may still be using it.
