It is an H with a M shifter grafted to it, possibly in the oil fill hole.

One of the regular contributors here, Ken Foxx, has done the engineering here. This tractor has the 9 speed transmission. As I understand it, as origionally set up, it was shifted with a cable arrangement. Ken made a mold of the mount on the left side--so the right is identical to the left. He then cast it around a fitting that screwed into the oil fill hole. He threw away all the cable arrangement and engineered it so that the right lever simply shifts backwards and forwards to shift into and out of the higher gears. It is a professional engineering job--and I suspect one of a kind. (Ken...if I have left something out or something is not correct, pleas fix it.)

Hard to tell for sure in picture but below shifter looks like its not cast and has been added for a conversation piece or riged up to shift a 9 speed.

I was going to say an H until I saw the second shift lever... maybe it's a 5&4 like the trucks?

That's a special "road ranger" transmission for guy that have trouble getting in 2 gears at once. Cotton picker? Do both levers work? The standard "reverse operation" cover had the towers bolted on. Those aren't. So yeah Tom. What is it? Or were you referring to the hour meter?
