Was going to cut the first hay field tonight. The hydraulic pump seal on the Super A was bad so installed a new one. Pump looked pristine inside and was working OK when tractor was parked last fall. Problem is no reaction whatsoever. Obviously no pressure. Worked the lever back and forth for close to 20 minutes. reservoir is full. I can lift the rear rockshaft up and down by hand with little or no resistance. Any ideas? Does the pump have to be primed? If so how? Thanks for your time
Karl

If you are sure that key, Tom spoke of is in, try parking the tractor with front end pointed down hill and take the plug out of resivour and let sit a while, then try it. Sometimes these are just slow to pick up oil after being removed and completely drained.

Hi Karl,

I had the pump on my SA off to replace the seal earlier this year. I know this sounds too simple, but is there any chance the woodruff key fell out unnoticed when you put the pump gear back on?

Tom

Karl: How much did you use the hydraulics since the new pump installation? Did you ever give the hydraulic system a good workout since you installed the new pump. Have you checked the screen in the touch control unit? That screen is on the suction side of pump and can shut off oil flow to the pump if plugged badly enough. Even partially pluged the screen could prevent oil flow if you have air in the line between screen and pump.

If the screen is clean, and some oil in lines, and as much oil as you can keep in pump during installation, the pump should pull the oil through. Try cleaning the screen, see if that helps, first. That failing, one would have to look at a kit for touch control unit.

Hi Hugh
I have not been able to use the hydraulics at all since I reinstalled the pump. It was working fine before but was putting hydraulic fluid into the engine oil pan, hence the new seal. I will drain the oil and examine the filter. Thanks, Karl
