SM instead of SMD

IN response to question why I don't keep my SMD as a SMD instead of buliding up a SM, I have to say Simple! I don't have an SMD engine! I have a SMD that had a stuck M gas engine in it when I bought it. All I have that is original to the SMD is the rolling chassis and the clutch assembly. The front bolster which is longer on a SMD has been busted and welded so I changed it to an M bolster. So all I really have of the SMD that is any good is the rearend and the mid section. Even the fuel tank had to be changed. I put this tractor together with parts that were just laying around. I will eventually put a SM gas motor in it. To turn it back into a SMD would take parting out another SMD that is in better shape than what I have. As far as value, did you see the guy who bought an M thinking it was a Super M just because it had SM decals on it? All it takes to sell a tractor is pretty paint and decent tires because most people don't even look at the tractor for what it really is.

Building a tractor from leftovers... I only wish I had enough parts laying around to do that.

You're bringing a tractor back from the grave. Maybe it's not 100% exactly the way it was when it rolled off the assembly line, but it's better than sending it to China for scrap, right? This should be admired and praised.

I think you have made the correct decision. Do the best you can with what you have and that is all that matters.

You are also correct about the shiny new paint jobs. When I see one with a brand new coat of paint, I will scrutinize it with a fine tooth comb, trying to find what is being covered up or hidden by all that paint.
