Hey guys and gals,
Decided the other night to take the 130 out for a spin after a long winter in the shed. Hmmmmm ..... .There was some clack-clacking in the tranny. You could feel it a bit in the stick shift. I travelled about 30' and the noise increased until she locked up. I put it into N, but it was still locked up when the clutch released. I rocked it back and forth a couple times, it seeemed to be free, so I put it in R and headed back into the shop. The noise was click-clackity-clacking all the way in like something was getting into the gears and locking it up once in a while. As long as I kept it going slow I was able to get it back in safely. BTW, I did take off the tranny cover to look inside before backing it in. Lots of fluid, nothing came out on my magnet, what I could see of the gears looked OK. It would not go forward at all. Maybe the diff?
Maybe the left final?
I do remember hearing a bit of noise when I put it away last fall, but this is serious now. Will probably bring it into the big shop and drain the fluid and pull the back cover off. It has no PTO.

Ed: Jack the rear wheels, try turning them by hand and listen for the noise without engine running. You could have a broken brake drum. Look at the activators, these are not the same as Cub, A or SA. There is a fulcrum pivot at end of brake pull rod, and both ends of brake band hook to that. A broken drum can jamb up on that pivot device.

My next move would be remove the pans on bottom of final drives. The large bull gear does not have a lot of clearence, thus broken pieces can jamb that as well. Those pans look rather flimsey, however I have seen them withstand a broken part being pushed by the bull gear.

Hugh,
Sounds like a good plan. I'll sure try that as soon as I find time again. Things are gettin' real busy with summer approaching.
Take care,
Ed
