Here is the proud owner of the "Hugh Special" (and his lovely wife) this is the super rare H-TA. This proves without a doubt that Super H-TA's do exist.

Ok guys, this was supposed to be a joke, The fine people that were magicly placed in front of the H are Mr & Mrs Hugh McKay, and they have never even seen that tractor. If you have been reading the posts for a long time, you know how Hugh gets going whenever someone AGAIN askes about a H TA. I thought it would be funny, but it didn't fly, but I tried.

Finally get to see those shorts everone alway's rides Hugh about. Hugh if it feels good do it. I wear mine all the time. Would not wear them when I was a kid or young man. About 16 or 17 years ago a buddy and me were packing 5 inch irrigation pipe through the mud and it 94 degrees so I put on shorts to keep cooler and not be balled up with mud. No going back now, I am into comfort these days.

George: COMFORT, is the name of the game at our age. I agree the shorts did look a bit baggy as I had just lost some weight, but they were damn comfortable. The fact remains we beat these old carcasses around the farm all our life, and in our senior years have the right to comfort.

Comfortable tractor, car, chair, shop, bank account, heck at a given time comfort comes ahead of passion.

I must agree with Hugh on this.Once a month all of us partiticipants on this board(I rarely post but always read-a contributing member for over 6 years)are put in our place by some one who has discovered the rare HTA.
I would suggest that anyone locating one of these units be treated to a copy of Guy Fays article in Red Power about 3-4 years ago(mine is long missing)to paraphrase-the HTA never made production as the expermiental unit was scrapped.
If anyone has this article please post it.
However someone did a nice job with the unit as long as its not considered "original"
Just my 2 cents

Gary,

I doubt anyone has denied the existence of an SHTA, however, no amount of pictures can prove that IH built one for resale. They are garage built using H tin and 300 TA frame. They are far less rare than the SBNVD"s are.

Yes, they do exist but IH did not make them to be an HTA, it is most likely the rear end out of a Farmall 300 and the engine out of a Super H.

That reminds me....Always look in the mirror before going out, and I should not wear short pants - especially as I move along in years.

Gary: This is it, proof that retired guys in Missouri have too much time on their hands. LOL I as much as anyone like what I see in these SHTAs. they make a nice looking tractor. Everyone on this forum, or at least the ones that read, know that my favourite Farmall from a styling point of view is letter series tractors. IH didn't come close again until 56 series, and with that added a functional tractor for modern day agriculture.

From that perspective, anything anyone can do to make ugly 00, 30-50 and 40-60 series tractors look better, I'm with them.

No it's definitely not the fact that some folks have actually built HTAs that annoys me. Rather, it's some hot shot coming along once a month thinking he knows all, and declaring that IH built and sold an SHTA. When I came to YT, I had decent knowledge of the tractors I'd farmed with, however there was then and still are a lot of things I don't know. Back then I spent 3 months brushing up on things I didn't know or had forgotten, before I posted a single post. I still read a lot more that I post. SHTA should be one of the easiest finds in the archives, thus when someone comes along asking the question, or making the declaration on HTA, you know right away he's too damn lazy to do a bit of reading. Further you also notice when that same individual get involved in other threads, he reads only the answers he wants to hear.

I have a friend west of Logansport In. that built one using a Super H and a 300. He really did a nice job. He also took a Cletrac and a straight H and made a really sharp crawler with a blade setup.

Did you ever stop to think maybe he had two BAD tractors and made a really EXCELLENT mutant? The H and M's "mutated" into the 300-400 series with additional refinements. Why would you whine about someone doing an outstanding job of taking parts from different tractors and making them work together. Kind of the story of American ingenuity.

I would do it if I had the time -- but I would never advertise it as authenic. There are a number of those around and they seem to be increasing -- It's just a conversation piece, or an idea what a HTA would look like if IH had not brought out the 300 before they had a chance to produce it. The Super H appeared later than the Super M -- it would have been nice if IH had changed the Super M and Super H at the same time and actually built the HTA -- but then we wouldn't have this to talk about every couple of days. It makes more sense to me and costs a lot less than some of the pulling tractors people build. To me its a neat tractor.
