No it will not start on the gas side, there is sufficient compression on all 4 cylinders, there is lots of spark coming out of the distributor, the needle valve is also opening up because there is fuel going through, I changed the oil because it was full of gas. Here are the things I have done to the tractor, as it ran great up until December when it got really cold outside, since then it has only started twice. I decided to do a few things that needed to be done, on the electric side, I rebuilt the starter, replaced the battery, ignition coil, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and, battery cables. On the fuel side, I cleaned the gas tank out, replaced the fuel line, installed a hi-flow glass fuel filter rebuilt the carb 3 or 4 times now and cleaned the intake manifold. When I got it however the distributor was loose so the timing could be out but I am not sure how far out it would have to be to cause a full no start as I know there is spark and I know there is fuel, which to the best of my knowledge (automotive not tractor) those are the 2 basic things you need to get an engine running, but there is always the chance that I have overlooked something and/or over fixed soemthing, but no matter what I have fixed and repaired there has never been any improvement in startability, sure the engine cranks easier now but it still does what it did since December... not start. My frustration level is just about at it's peak because I am being beaten by a 50 year old engine, it was fun at first because I was getting some of the tin cleaned up and painted while I was working on other things, but now I am pretty much done all the cleaning and scrubbing and painting that can be done, my animals are starting to get really hungry waiting for the rounds to come out to them. Anyways, that is my rant, so any suggestions are totally and completely appreciated. If only there was a good tractor mechanic around here, the only guy who did it is now retired... convenient since he rebuilt 3 tractors the same as mine.
