The day after cutting 10 acres of hay I hooked my 560 to the baler to get it ready to bale. After about 5 minutes coolant started pouring out the overflow. Checked the level and it was close to full. When i finished preping the baler, on the way back to the barn , 5 minutes it starrted again. I need to bale tonight, should I start with the cap or go straight to the thermostat? thanks

Well first off is it a gasser or a diesel ??? , As others have said check the easy stuff first . Mowen hay can plug the fins on the rad. pull the grill and with compressed air blow out from back to ft. from top to bottom .Mkae sure that your fan belt is tight . as for the thermostat ????? don't know for sure here as i am not there to check . If it is a diesel ya may have some seirous problems . like a cracked head or block . this can be checked with out pulling the engine down and works on both gas and diesel . Here is who ya do that , first drain the cooling system down till ya can remove the thermostat and housing remove the fan belts so the water pump does not turn make sure that the engine is cold with the coolant level at the top of the mounting face of the thermostat start the engine and rev the engine if she pushes coolant out the littel darling have internal injurys if no coolant pushes out then it is either the water pump the thermostat or rad.. It's like going to school do the easy stuff first them move on to 2nd. grade and so on.

Check your radiator fins to see if they are cloged. I took the grill off my 560D to clean it out last year. the other posts are right, a radiator will puke if over filled. a cooling system will reach an operating level after running it. Watch your temp gage and check coolant level, if it isn`t dropping below the top of the tubes when looking down the filler neck you should be good.

Dunno,

Haven't seen an IH tractor yet that wouldn't "puke" out the overflow when you fill 'em too darned full and then start working the tractor.

They always do that until the level gets down where it belongs and it will drive ya nuts until the fluid level stabalizes.

Watch your heat gauge; if it is okay, I'd keep on goin' and the overflow should stop.

Allan

I haybined for 4 hours the night before and didn't lose a drop. The next day I lost a gallon in 10 minutes.

Oh,

I read you that you had just "topped 'er off".

'Spose the cap is getting a bit weak? Is the tractor overheating?

Sounds like a bad head gasket to me.
