Farmall F-12 - Different Looking Frame Rails

I don't know why my Dad's 1933 F-12 has different looking frame rails. I've never seen any like them before. Its a different style. Can anyone give me any info on these? Why do they look different? Thanks.

I am not sure on these but it may be because they used the wauskesha engine the first couple years. 33 was the worst year of the depression and a lot of factorys were running only one or two days a week and orders were very slow to come in. I have a feeling that the little F-12s may have helped save IH from closing up for good.

Oh I'd be willing to bet that an F-12 or two snuck out of the factory with one of those starting tanks on it.

yeah there are early and late frame rails. Guy Fay wrote an article that was in Red Power a while back that listed a bunch of changes the f-12's went threw.

I am not certain but I believe the early F-12s up to sometime in at least 34 had the framerails that are sort of curved at the end like those in your first picture. My F-12 which is a 34 has frame rails indentical to those on yours. While my parts engine/front end came with a frame rail indentical to that in your second picture. Its just the same reason that some F-12s have the primer attached to the hood while others dont, and some have a starting tank mounted to the hood itself. Its all a matter of what year they were made coinciding with they were coming out of the factory with.

Thanks. The F12 never used the tank in the hood, only the F-14 originally.
