I swear I must have "fixed this carb. about 4 times since I have owned it and it has never worked properly. Even the guy who sold me the rebuild kit said they don't usually seat right and folks always have trouble with this carb. flooding. I basically have to shut off the fuel line everytime I turn off the tractor. Anyone else have this trouble? Anyone know a solution?

Thanks folks... I will do all that was suggested and see what happens (especially looking for cracks, that had never crossed my mind). I am having fuel issues with two trucks also... when it rains it pours. Thanks again.

I certainly agree with Rusty's comments - especially the one about float level. It has been my experience that the recommended float level setting in the owner's manual for the Zenith equipped Super A's is off a little. It causes leaking and rich running/flooding of the engine. The Super A Zeniths work best for me when I adjust the float level so that the gas in the bowl is just a little lower than the recommended setting. That means setting the float level measurement a little MORE than the recommendation - I'd say about 1/16" to 1/8" more. mike

Been down that road with the leaks. Cleaned it with carb cleaner then took it to another guy that used carb cleaner, soap bath, and installed the kit parts. Still leaked.

Took it to another guy and he carb cleaned it and reinstalled everything and it still leaked. Took it back to him and he carb cleaned it again and I got a new float and thought that it was fixed.

Brought it to the store and parked it outside while I ran to the farm. I got a call that the gas was leaking bad so I had to run back and shut the gas off. I decided to just get a new carb from YT. It fit perfect and ran perfect and no leaks. I still shut the gas off but its nice to know it isnt going to leak if I forget.

My experience is the Zenith carb is no worse than any other in that regard. Rusty's advice below is right on. Follow it all and your carb will not leak when standing idle.

However as a practical matter, even though my tractors' carbs do not leak, I ALWAYS shut off the fuel at the sediment bulb when I'm done for the day.

I was taught this as a kid - we did not want to waste "expensive" gas (29 cents at the time!) by it's leaking thru a carb malfunction. Now with $3+ gas it's a no brainer.

Also there's a fire safety issue. All it takes is a slow carb leak and an accidental ignition source and your tractor (and barn/garage if stored indoors) are up in smoke.

Spending 5 seconds to close the sediment bulb shutoff is pretty cheap insurance!

Your carb may be cracked somewhere, if so, it's toast. If there are no cracks, then make sure that the needle cage has a good gasket under it, and make sure it is screwed in tightly. Double check the float, immerse it in warm water and watch for bubbles. Get a new float if the old one leaks. Double check the float level, the proper setting is critical, close only counts in horseshoes, and also make sure that the float is setting straight and NOT rubbing on the fuel bowl. Make sure that fuel inlet fitting has the filter screen in place. Make sure that the sediment bowl assy. also has the fine mesh filter disc in it, and last, but not least, stale gasoline will create lots of problems in your carb.

I have that problem more often with Marvel Schebler carbs. You may have a lot of crap in the gas tank that keeps finding its way to the needle and its seat. The float could be out of whack a little.
