Farmall A - Worth the effort ... or junk.

I was told of this abandoned Farmall A tractor and decided to take a look. It's mine for the taking in an all or nothing deal (can't cherry pick). Rad, grill, hood, pan, valve cover are there. No sign yet of head, crank or pistons, but they may be found in undergrowth. Comes with a sickle mower and 3 section disc cultivator.

Anyway, I'm debating if it would be worth the effort to pull this out of the bush. I'm not scared of the work involved... it actually looks like it would be kinda fun (I'm sure you guys know what I mean)..... . but I do have a wife that needs explaination for these types of endeavours. I just can't imagine that this would ever be anything but a lawn decoration, or broken up for parts. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks everybody for all of the encouragment. Wife has read the replies and says "... guess you have no choice now?....." :)

Dave_Id: I'm on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada... so a deal on the rad would be difficult.

I'm going to head out today armed with a machete, etc and start picking up the bits and pieces. I'll post some progress pics here.

I would say go for it. I know if I had found it, it would already be at my place. Shoot if for no other reason to pull it out is you can save it from being cut up for scrap iron and sell a few parts and make a few $$

There's a young chap that post's on here and he restored a tractor in about the same shape. I think his handle was Purdue and was attending this college and he may have graduated by now. He posted pictures of the tractor during the restoration. It looked new when finished. Hal

It is a Super A, I can see the hydraulic lines in the photo. I brought a 240 utilitiy home in boxes once and my wife just shook her head. 6 months later I had it running like Swiss watch. I didn't like it much (rowcrop man) so I sold it later on. I would take any and all free ones in a heart beat regardless of condition. You never know you may run across another one and build one good from the two.

I say pull it out of the brush and bring it home with you.
Best case, you get to have a great project that will (hopefully) bring you much joy, and a good sense of satisfaction to see what you started with and then what it turns out to be.
Worst case, you saved the tractor from just rusting somewhere in a woodlot until you cant tell what it is. You could always sell it for scrap, put the parts that are there on ebay, or hand what you have off to someone else who wants a project like that.

They arent making any more of them, its nice to save the ones that are still left out there...

Have to say that I've drug home items that look the same just to save them from the scrap man. The price is right and you will never know if you don't try. G'luck!
