Where was this one located? I would like to see one in person. Did you buy that MV?

Now that's one M that can get the job done and also get a lot of attention. Any chance that the owner would part with some of the plans that were used to adapt the front wheel drive assist?

It could probably be reproduced for around $7-$8 thousand. I'll take your order if you like. I have an original that can be used for reverse engineering.

This only includes the gear box and wheels. The axle is military surplus from a WW3 duece and a half. Those should be plentiful.

It wasn't "adapted." That was a kit available from the Elwood axle manufacturing company. They made front wheel assist axles for IH right up through the end in 1985.

Axles like this on older tractors like the M are fairly rare. The mechanism used to drive it is far from ideal (probably not all that reliable either), and I believe you're limited to 3rd gear with the front end engaged. On top of that, you needed 3 acres to turn the tractor around.

Nat

All gears function including low range on TA. Power comes from the top side of one of the cluster gears on the mainshaft. Probably 4th-5th.

I have an Elwood and it runs fine. I have not heard of reliability issues with the unit. It does look fragile, however.

All my tires are loaded and the rear has 10 weights. The front has a pair of weights. I also have four suitcase weights hanging off the front.

Yeah turning radius is not great. Probably similar to a crew-cab pickup.
