I have a '53 H I'm fixing and the water jacket is up-side down. I'm getting water in the oil, could this be the problem or could it be the head gasket. I have the oil pan off and the block isn't cracked so I'm not sure what is wrong. Thanks

Terminology is always an issue, so here goes. The waterjacket is the area in the block and head castings that are out side the cylinder/combustionchamber, and inside the exterior paint. Thus having it upside down means the engine is upside down! (Please bear with me, I'm not being rude. If you mean th side cover with baffle, it can only leak to the outside, not internally. If it was upside down, there might be an issue with water distribution for cooling, but not water in oil.

If the pan is off, use good light and get comfortable under the engine looking for the source of the leaks. Three regions are important. The area at the bottom of the cylinders where the sleeves can be seen.
Drain ports comming down from the pushrods/head.
And the front cover area. Look for coolant. Putting about 6 to 7 psi in the radiator will help push water into the leak. good luck, JimN

Is the head cracked?
