Farmall H carb dripping from weep hole??

I rebuilt 2 carbs for my Farmall H and they both are dripping from the weep hole. They leak a little after I run the tractor, shut it down and let it sit for a while. I figure that I am screwing something up. Both carbs have been completely cleaned, soaked and IH rebuild kits used ( rubber tipped fuel needle). I set the float 1 27/23" from the gasket surface ( with the gasket in place) and the fuel level is 7/8" down from the gasket surface when I use the clear tube to check fuel height. One carb on the H sat all winter and never leaked a drop, come summer and it leaks. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

I have rebuilt dozens and dozens of carbs for H's and M's and about 90% of the secret to a NO DRIP carb is to smooth out the tiny little dimple that the needle wears in the float. Just use some emery paper and completly remove the dimple and reset the float level. Works every time. Hope this helps everyone. As a professional mechanic I have used this trick for over 40 years.

John,

Are you talking about that few drops after you shut it off (especially hot) or when ya use the choke?

Updraft carbs have been doing that since the Model A days. Plumb normal.

No, it shouldn't set there and "run" out; only thing that will cause that is a leaky N/Seat.

Should have added,

All carburetors "percolate" after shutdown.

Only difference is that you don't see it on a downdraft because the fuel is running into the intake manifold and they don’t have that weep hole. It is there for precisely that reason; to let that fuel out.

Take the carbs apart, remove the needle and seat. Spray the needle and seat liberally with carb cleaner, blow dry, and reassemble. This is a trick I have learned to do even when the needle and seat is brand new.

i have 5 farmalls. i have 2 that will leak 1 min after shut off, and one will leake after a hour or so. I just turn off the gas evry time im gonna let it sit for more than a couple of min. It is so easy to turn on and off. Although it sucks when you forget to turn the gas back on and you run out as then you need to get off the tractor and turn the gas back on. Hey look at it this way if it were a horse you would have to feed it and water it every time you wanted to use it or put it away. Like grandpa said " i was used to spending alot of time getting the horses ready to go and put away". turning on and off the gas is a far cry from horses. But a improper adjusted float will cause this and if the shut off valve dosent seal just perfect it will let fuel by. the float could be rubbing on the side not letting it up all the way to shut the valve off. Take the carb apart and manualy push the float up to see if the valve is working properally. It is nice to not have to turn the gas on and off though, but im just used to it i guess.
