rustyfarmall had said that autolite plugs are way better then champion, and inline filters are nothing but problumes..... if i dont have a miss in the engine what would autolite do for me that the champion can't? mabey auto lite might last longer but if there is no miss why would it matter? How about a inline filter? the screen was missing on my carb so i added a inline filter. Rusty also said that they are nothing but trouble. I have a H that had a plugged screen so i cleaned it and also added a inline filter. i went to check the carb screen 6 months later and the carb screen was clean as new. what is so bad about a inline filter? the ones i use you can change the filter and it only takes a min. since the inline did such a good job do you think i need to use the i.h. filter screen on the carb? ( i will get one anyways but i will still use the inline) the inline filter catches smaller stuff the carb filter would let by. I am open to all comments.. i realize it is best to use both filters, the carb one and a inline for added protection. but i don't understand the spark plug thing. i could understand putting in better plugs in a car that has hard to change plugs like a astrovan. i put the split fire platiums in the astro and the 8mm wire as there a b!tch to change in the van.

As already covered the in line filter will work fine if it is for gravity feed. The Champion plugs are not as good as they use to be. When I overhauled my Super C in 97, I got a new set of Champions from my IH parts man and two of them were dead from the start, I took those back and traded for another set of them and one of those was dead, so I have not bought a Champion plug since. If they are running good run them until they quit.

Tractor Vet has a very good point about the fire danger but I have ran inline filters for years without a problem. If I had a tractor that used more $3 gallon gasoline than my inline filters will flow (fast stream bigger than pencil) I would probaly feel like burning it intentionaly.

It's like this if the screens are in place like they SHOULD be anything that will go thru them will go thru the passages in the carb. So like i said don't be so lazy and clean your tanks.

First off over the years of playen with tractors and race cars i have found that ya get just a weeeee ee bit more out of the Motor Craft - Auto lite plugs , next choise for a Farmall is a A/C plug . Now on to the In line fuel filters , Not a good thing on a tractor first off them in lines all require that you CUT the fuel line then add a couple pices of RUBBER HOSE and some of them are made out of plastic , not a good thing if something should happen and a small fire starts it turns into a realy big fire real fast and there will be no saving the tractor as i have seen this more then once don't care if it is a gasser or a diesel . and i do not like Copper lines on a tractor i'll take the time and make up a new steel line if it needs a line . plus the inlines will restrict fuel flow , now it may be fine for just a joy ride ya may never know how much it restrick the flow till ya put them under a full load then it will cause it to start to lean out. So it is like this if the screen is not in the bottom of the sediment bowl and the screen is not in the inlet of the carb THEN FIX IT and make it wright , if you are getting junk into the system then clean the tank and find out why your getting JUNK IN THE GAS , proably from dirty fuel cans so then ya buy a funnel that has a screen to filter the fuel.

Most in-line filter do cause more trouble then they are worth, because most are made to be used with fuel pumps and have or should have pressure on the in-let side to make them do as they should. Now if you have an in line filter made for a gravity feed fuel system yes they work well but the problem is most people put on on that they buy at the auto parts store and they are made for a fuel pump system and DO CAUSE PROBLEMS. I may self have brought home about 12 cases of beer because of them. People call me an say I have a fuel problem and I go look and find in line filter on and throw them away and get the case of beer for my trouble

Just my opinion, and experience. The Champions I have purchased in the past have not lasted near as long as the Autolites, and have given me headaches right out of the box. I just prefer the Autolites, some prefer the Champions. AFA the inline filter, I have two right now with inlines, and have not had a problem, just have to make sure its not one for an automtive fuel pump type. My local NAPA has these and are clear for about 6 bucks each.

I put inline filters on all my gas engines. From a push mower to my tractor. that combined with using gas stabilizer means I have virtually no carb problems. And no fires yet either.
Most tractor fires seem to happen because of poor maintenance, ie not replacing rotton fuel lines or not fixing gas leaks. Or perhaps bad wiring.
