I have had one of these models for years. Dad had one back in the 70-80's. The weak points, as mentioned is the shifting linkage in the transmission, the power steering lines at the bolster, and the torque amplifier. They are a good strong tractor but you'll also find opposing opinions. That tractor weighs about 10000 lbs if the rear tires are loaded, and is meant for field use, not your garden. They are roughly 72 hp for the gas model, diesel has a better engine. As with any other machine, you must have patience to operate it, and you have to provide routine preventative maintenance. I have a front end loader on mine and a 7' heavy duty bush hog. I bought the attachments new and gave $4500 for the tractor with cab, heat no air, and 3700 hours on it. In KY that is a good price but I could buy the same tractor in MI, IN, IL for about 1000 less, merely because there is an abundance of tractors there, and good flat farm land, unlike the hills of KY.

We have a 706 on our farm that my father purchased when he was just out of high school. It is his favorite tractor and he would operate all day as opposed to others. I on the other hand can not stand driving this machine. As others have mentioned, the shifting is difficult at times.

Glenn I saw a 706 NF go for $2,600 in central IN about 2 years ago. It didn't have the extras, but I think that price seems pretty high.

I bought an 806 D from a dealer in 1984 and still have it. I gave $4500 for it. I put a clutch and TA in it in 1991.

Glenn, Price seems about 2.5k to high for MICH&IND area. 706 is a good mid power tractor, but I hate shifting ours. We paid 3.2k for ours a few years ago, then added a #2050 IH loader.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Do you need a large loader tractor and/or mower? Sounds like this ad is for some one with a starter castle/estate to take care of.. find someone who knows equiplent to go along to see it..My worry on these deals is proablems might be missed because the buyer sees nice paint and a reciept of some work done. My feeling for that amount it better be right, but thats no guarntee..I'd rather buy a tractor that is sold because the farmer changed his farm operation and doesn't need it any more... The seller might need that price to stay in business but that doesn't mean that it is worth that much.. You didn't mention whether it was gas or diesel, open or cab, wide or narrow front end, 2 or 3 point hitch.. This is a large tractor and not the easist to shift..I drove one 30 years ago for 10 hours that had a cab and ear protection was a must.
