Started plowing last week and noticed that engine oil was coming out the exhaust manifold and dripping onto the oil cooler. It did this last year but quit when the motor warmed up.Now it doesn't want to stop.Mostly does it under full load. The tractor runs fine and doesn't smoke at all.Is there a problem brewing?Or should I just run it and see if it clears itself up.Thanks for any help.

Working at IH dealer when these were new we had this happen on some units, it was bad enough it would spit raw fuel out muffler onto new hood paint, customers didnt like this, the advice from IH was generally correct that they were not running the tractor at full speed or under light load, if the operator ran it harder it would dry up. Only non turbo tractors 766/966 were guilty. I suspect what you see thinking its oil is actually diesel fuel.

Thanks guys.I'm reading the responses and laughing out loud.My Wife asked me whats so funny and I told these guys hit the nail on the head.Thinking back, this tractor has just idled around all winter and I just wanted to plow a little loose ground.I pull 4-14's and I know it would like 5-16's.And I was just easing her into the new season, not wanting to really crank her up yet. My Wife shook her head and walked back to the kitchen. Some people just don't understand what puts an IH head in a good mood. Thanks again guys . A. J.

AJ. My 966 does this after I have been useing her on light work around the place. A lot of idoling
around. The cure --- hang 13 shanks of a chiesel
plow on the back of her ,sink them about 10" deep,
plow for one day. Check oil every hour or so to be safe. The cure should be complete.
The problem is not enough heat to properly burn
everything in the cylinder. While you idleing
around. Good Luck!

Hi AJ,
I think what you are experiencing is called wet-stacking. I'd just run it a little longer, it will probably quit dripping, kinda like creasote in a chimeny. Be sure to check your oil. If it is taking more that 1 quart a day it could be bad rings, but you say you don't have any smoke so I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck!

Mine does that when it is not heated up good. I have one or more injectors that are not squirting a good pattern. Shift up a gear or add a plow. She likes to work for her dinner. If she doesn't quit crying you may have to do surgery.
