F-20 governor woes

Im having trouble with the governor. you can't hardly pull the throttle at al and it revs like crazy. is there any tips on how to adjust it? has anyone had this problem? thanks, adam

oh, by the way, it is a '39 with the throtle control on the side of the tank and the stock governor

Adam I had the same problem with mine.The trouble was the rod from the govenor was binding up inside the tube it took some time to rebend it so it wouldn't bind but it was easy to fix.

the part about the rod i already tok care of. it is not something binding, but something adjustment wise... i duno... im gettin agrivated with the old thing...

First of all check the rock shaft to see if not worn.Rock shaft is checked at front of the housing coming from carbureator to just behind the fan on left side of motor. If there is no looseness here it is a matter of taking oil fill cover off and adjusting governor spring. This is assuming that you have checked for binding of throttle linkage going into the governor housing. I forget the exact measurement, but I believe that 1/2 inch movement is required before you get pressure to the throttle arm. You may have to try couple of times before getting it correct.

try taking thr cover of the front, (left hand side just behind radiater)make sure the control is free. several places to get stuck.
