The generator belt on my 100 broke(it finally wore out). Following the instructions in the manual, I tried to loosen up the fan spindle so I could slide it down and install the new belt, but I can't get it to budge. Which way do you turn it to loosen it?? I'm hesitant to really put a lot of oomph on a wrench for fear of breaking something. I've been spraying it with PB Blaster to loosen it, but no luck so far. Any help is appreciated!

Gentlemen, thank you very much; will give it another shot this afternoon and see how it turns out!

Put the wrench on the hex just behind the fan hub, in front of the bracket that the fan is attached to. Don't try to turn the nut on the back of the bracket. It's held by a slot so it does not turn when you turn the bolt (or shaft that the fan runs on).

All of them I worked on have been right-hand thread.
If you were looking at the front of the spindle, through the radiator and grill, you would turn it counter-clock wise. Turn the spindle shaft, not the nut.

And they can be pretty tight.

The wide groove in the back of the housing is supposed to keep the nut from turning.

The groove that holds the nut from turning is not raised that much and as well some them deteriorate to point it will not hold nut. I believe also some people have ground groove out so as to put a wrench on nut, thus getting it tighter. I ran across this on a couple of these. Of course to get it loose you have to turn nut first.
