Darn carb problem in I-544 gas

I have a I-544 gas engin and it starts and runs fine for about 15 minutes then stalls. The only way it will restart is if I spray starting fluid into the carb. Then it will fire right up and idle. When I put it in gear it runs for about 4 feet and stalls out. Then this process needs repeated.

My question is what is wronge with my Carb? Not enough gas when the engin warms up is my guess. Before I drop $300 in a new carb, what adjustments can I make to try to correct this problem. I have already had the carb appart and everthing looks fine. P.S. My floats are not sticking (I have already had someone look at that). I have a Zentith carb with a blead screw instead of a solnoid shut off.

One more piece of info, the fuel pump has been removed and converted to a gravity feed. I can see why it might stall under this situation, but why does it refuse to restart?

fuel pmup went bad on my 544 and it would run fine on gravity as long as the tank was at least 3/8 full . otherwise it would run a little while and die. put a new pumpon and also blew out the carb. htere was some crud in the passage between the inlet screen and the float valve.

I put my new fuel pump on and it ran. I took a victor lap around my house (wife was a little pissed). I think the pump solved my problem. My engin still want to ramp up a little and it 5 gear I was shooting some fire out my exaust. Is that normal?

Just curious, but does that tractor have the rear mounted fuel tank? If so, replace the fuel pump and that should solve the problem.

I am replacing the fuel pump this week. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
