Ok, here it is, I checked the following: oil level, oil guage, the line to the guage, and removed the pump and replaced the almost nonexistant gasket. Very little pressure! Help

AgMan, This is the way we would "test" the IHC pumps that have the drive shaft. After cleaning, leave the pump immersed in the solvent and turn the shaft by hand, and plug the outlet with your thumb or finger and feel the pressure build, it should be almost instantious, and NO liquid should be squirting from around the shaft. If the pump will pump and build pressure with the solvent by hand, it will pump engine oil when turned by the engine.

I have found that most of the time on farmall pumps that the problem is that the shaft has worn the cast pump housing resulting in the pump shaft being lose, you can check it by wriggling it back and fore if it is lose the oil escapes out by the drive gear instead of being pumped into the motor. easy to fix,get another pump.

I would suggest before you change the pump, plastiguage the mains that can be reached (I think that possibly only the rear cannot be checked with just the pan off.) And plastiguage the rods ( I think all can be reached).. If the bearings are out of tolerance, you know where your problem is.. I would suggest that if you have to replace the rod and main bearings, also replace the cam bearings..

As far as the pump goes.. Was there much wear on the bottom plate of the pump?? if so, you can have the plate milled back to tolerace, which will give you more pressure, but probably not enough.. also check the gear lash in the pump..

Agman this may not be your problem but just a thuoght that popped into my head, how much wear is on the engine? If your bearing are in pretty bad shape you wont have good oil pressure. Also consider the fact that the gauge you just bought could be bad.Seen that happen once on a JOHN DEERE,but I wont go into that.(just a factory defect on the gauge)If everything seems to be ok you may need a pump.Hopefully yours just needs to be cleaned up.

AgMan I am thinking a weak pump at this point. I had a somewhat weak one on my 51H. When I got another one my oil pressure increased a good 10 psi up and down the line.

Call Gary Biewer at 218-937-5627. He should have some used ones and he will test it before shipping you one. Budget around $50 or so.

Lets also see what Bob M or other folks have to say on this. I've run out of ideas beyond changing the pump.
