I have a 6 foot king Cutter Rotory Cutter with a 3 point hitch conntection. It works great, but my land is slightly hilly and I have scalped a spot here and there. I am thinking about adding some wheels to the front of the cutter to help avoid this. Similar to the anti-scalping wheels on the front of a riding movers deck. They would contact the ground, only to push the mover up.

Has anyone tried to do this before? Is there some reason I am not presently aware of that make this a bad idea? I do not see why the manufactures did not include these wheels in the first place. I would really apprecate your input, I am new to tractor implements.

I wouldn't have thought that would work because I don't think the 3pt. would allow the mower to rise. The end result being some wheel marks as well as some scalping. Not entirely sure. Hope this helps. SAm in NS

Just last night I was looking at the very same modification you are talking about. Someone had welded up 2 bars next to or on to the 3 point hitch arms and fixed up height adjustable wheels. Looked like it came from the factory that way! The guy said he is now avoiding scalped spots just like you are describing. If you like, I will scan it and email it to you. Let me know.

Yea, Email that to me please. What I was thinking was just two separt small wheels on each side at the front of the mover.

Also does placing hanging changes at the discharge really help stop objects that might accidently get thrown by the blades.

One could only imagine that chains would at least slow it down a lot.

I don't know how much work it would be,but have you thought about cutting off the scalped areas with a grader blade.....the land would look better in the long run and no modifications to the mower.....
