does anyone have a photo of an m with duals. can you use 2 of the cast wheels with one facing inward and one outward with the rims on as duals or is the axle not long enough or strong enough

I have thought about doing this to our 400, and as far as i can tell, you could do it. You would have to have the inside wheels slid all the way in, and butt the hubs right up next to each other, and then you'd have about and inch or two to spare on the axle. And you'd have three or four inches between tires.

Yes Mark my Dad has run a set of M cast wheels as duals on one of His SMTA's since the early
1960's. You are correct, the inside wheel must
be dished in and the outer dished out.I should
also mention He runs 15.5-38,s all the way across.

good luck Dave

That was not my SMD, belongs to a friend. It runs as good as it looks too. I have a 53 SM that I am going to do the same thing to but I am going to leave it in its work clothes with new decals. Belive it will be sharp that way Jack

Don't give me the credit. It's Jack's picture, I just moved it here from the photo archives. It is pretty mean looking, isn't it? Fireman

Mark the hub thicknes is roughly 7". There is only enough room to point both hubs towards or away from the transmission. Axle length from the housing out is roughly 16".
