My m farmall shifts nicely into R, 2, 4 gears. The bottom three 1, 3, 5 when I shift into go into a no-mans land and the stick goes everywhere. Is this a worn stick sliding out of the rails? If so, Where Could I buy a brand new shifter stick? This kills me because I salvaged a tractor from the hedge and rebuilt the engine, now I find the transmission has this problem. thanks.

Thanks for the advice, guys. That calms my worries. Now I know it is repairable, and how to repair it.

You probably have a very worn finger that extends into the trans.. I just redone mine. First release the spring on the shift lever that holds the cap down. Each end of the pin that holds the shift lever is covered with a small freeze plug cover, about 5/8 inch, knock it out with a sharp punch and that will expose the real pin. It can usually be pulled out with a magnet as it is probable loose from wear. It is 7/16 inch and propably worn. Make a new one from a grade 5 bolt. You can now lift the shift lever out and see it is probably very worn and can be built up with weld. It takes som patience to get a good fit, weld oversize and carefully grind and file for the proper fit. Good luck
