Does anyone know if the 806 & 856 diesels were sold new off the lot with turbos or added on later?

The 806 & 856 tractors did not have a factory turbocharger. The 1206 was first factory turbo charged farm tractor from IHC. A turbocharger accessory was offered by IHC for use in high altitude areas for the 560 but it had to be dealer installed and was not supposed to be used for regular not high altitude farm use.

I believe the engines were offered in larger tractors with a turbo

The 806-856 did not have Turbos from factory however there were aftermarket turbos that actually assisted the 806 in particular in cleaning up its exhaust. I installed a aftermarket turbo on my brother's 806 which poured out so much diesel smoke you could see the tractor a mile away from the cloud of smoke. After the installation of the turbo and NOT changing the fuel injector pump the exhaust cleared up and the tractor actually gained a small but significant increase in torque. Many people put turbos on and cranked up the fuel pump and "walla" blew the motor up by either cracking the head or burning holes in the pistons.
