Changing gears makes my teeth hurt

I finially got my International 544 running gear drive with TA (8 forward/2 reverse gears) When I first push in the clutch and select a gear, a horrible sound is made as the gear teeth try to line up. It will go into gear after about 2 sec. After it is engaged and running, I can push in the clutch and shift gears without grinding. If however I put the tractor in neutral and then try back into a gear, i have the same grinding sound again.

Does this sound like a clutch adjustment problem or a replace the clutch problem? I can use the tractor as is, as long as I never leave it out of gear (or it will grind). Due to me having get of the tractor periodically this is becoming nolonger an option. I could really use insite on this problem.

This tractor was not made to shift on the run, I was around them new at dealer (I unloaded them off truck), You might check adjustments anyway, should be in op manual, TA will shift anytime.

Same way with my H, i thing it is just that every thing in the transmission is still settling down or slowing down from going engine speed. I also had to cut my clutch rod off about a foot off from the end with the threads. I welded a bodt anbout 11 inches long onto it so i can push it in further. But first, try putting the clutch in and wait two seconds then put it in gear.

Check your free pedal on the clutch, it is not releasing completely.

THere is not free travel at the top of my clutch (I think). Is there any purging of the air in the system needed? I know a automoblies hydraulic clutch needs to be bleed (air purged)

Our 544 just has a rod from the clutch to the pivot shaft that runs through the torque tube. If you have the utility, I don't know what could be different.

If there is no free pedal and it still doesn't completely release you are looking at a new clutch and/or pressure plate.

You might want to check your throught-out bearing. I've had the same problem on a Super A. Bearing was wore and let input shaft drop, which let the front top and rear bottom of clutch disk drag.

You need to adjust your clutch. I had the same problem on my 300.
