AM I GOING TO GET CRUSHED?

I think I have a plan! However, some of my plans do not work out very well. I am going to pull the motor in my H. I figure to block up the rear just in front of the belly pump, attach the engine hoist, then remove the bolster. After removing the head, I got to looking at the bolster and am wondering if I am horse enough to handle the bolster by myself. Does anyone have any words of advice before I have to call 911.

I would take john's advice but even if you have a second hoist it is a lot better to have help there.Thats one serious piece of iron.Good luck

If you have the tractor SECURELY blocked and the BRAKES SET (being in gear is no help if the engine's out) and your engine hoist is positioned to take the weight of the engine, you can take the front bolster, front wheels, channel irons that run along the engine, (even the radiator if you want to) off in one piece. But I'd want to be stronger than I am (and you might be) to do it! Get some help unless you take it off piece-at-a-time!

If you have a secure beam overhead to attach a separate chain hoist to the top of the bolster, you might remove the entire assembly safely by yourself.

Besides the injury factor, it's SO embarrasing to get trapped where you can't get out by yourself!

Just curious about why you are removing the engine. Is the block not rebuildable or are you going to replace with another rebuilt engine? Most rebuilds are done with the engine in the tractor as far as I can tell.
