You adjust by turning the nut on the rod going to the brake from the foot pedal. The way I adjust mine is jack up rear wheels and adjust until just drags and let off until no drag. adjust until both pedals have the same braking applied height. If they are frozen you will need to disassamble and clean. The expander balls are probally rusted and the wear plates are the same. Clean them up and coat with a good rust preventative such as anti seize where the balls roll and the plates pivot not on the brake surfaces. Do not paint. I did this on mine about 5 years ago and have not had any more problems.

Just got a 444, have question about transmission fluid level and type. Look down filler hole and see no fluid. This is my first tractor so any suggestions would be appreciated.

THANK'S

Transmission fluid is HyTrans or equivalent for both hyd.and trans. Hytrans at the dealer is about $30.for 5 gal. and at Napa about $29. Any good universal Hydraulic transmission fluid will do. Do not use straight Hydraulic fluid as it is not designed for transmissions. The fill hole is beside the gear shifter and the full level is a pipe plug on the left side in front of the foot rest below the clutch pedal. Fill until runs out of plug hole. Hydraulic fill is behind seat on top of resoivoir and fill up to about 1 inch of bottom of hole.
Hope this helps.
