Here is a diagram I scanned in from an M&W catalog on how to use the belly pump as a reservoir for live hydraulics.

Questions come up all the time about it so I'm also going to include how to plumb it: Pump suction should come from the hole shown in the diagram (3/4"). Pressure should go to an open center spool valve. Return from the spool valve could either go in a T fitting on the fill hole, or a T fitting in the suction line for the pump.

Also, a live hydraulic pump from a Super H, 300, or 350 will fit on an H if you change the timing cover to one from a SH/300/350. You should also use the cam gear from those as they were built heavier.

Hope this helps someone out!

i've heard a lot about the resevoir for the live pump, but i keep looking for the pump itself but am having no luck. also looking for 3pt. hitch. i have a farmall h with no serial tag plate so i can't tell the year. all it has is the drawbar. my neighbor told me they had one when younger, but couldn't remember where the hydraulic lines where. any info on this would be great.

Kelly is right, they hold 6 quarts and you need to use a non-detergent oil or Hy-Tran. Regular oil will foam and cause problems.

Personally, I just fill mine until it runs out somewhere, don't have a dipstick either.
