I got a 986 which sometimes now doesn't want to engage into high range with the high-low shifter all the time. When it does get engaged it stays put. Is there any adjustment on the linkage? How do i get to it? Would it be under the cab? any help would be appericated. Thanks
Alvin

We have 3 86 series tractors and have had issues with shifting on 2 of them. You have to take the seat and seat suspension out as the other reply stated. On the 1486 we found the range bolt had loosened up over time and had allowed the arm and shaft to wear at the point where they contact. We had to remove the arm and flip it over and retorqued the bolt. This took care of that problem. We weren't experiencing your problem ours was stuck in both high range and park at the same time. Might check and see if you have loose bolts down there.

To get to your linkage you have to take the seat assy out and then remove the seat support. It sounds as the trouble is in your detent which is located in your range trans.cover. Just my experience.
