I have mounted lights on the bar & 1 on the deck facing reward. I am going to wire a toggle switch in to my key switch. My question is what kind of toggle switch do I need for this. I want to have it where I can turn the front lights on for road use & then flip the same switch for all lights during field work. I know this is possible, but I need to know what to go to town & buy. So if you understand what I'm asking, I'd appreciate your help, and let me know if there is anything else I should do. All this is on my 48 M. Thanks Gordon

Gordon - If you want to use a toggle, the easiest is to use a 3-position, DPDT (double pole double throw) switch. Properly wired you can have it so when the toggle is "up" you have front lights only, "down" would have both front and rear light. Center position will provide off. Radio Shack will have a 3-position DPDT switch - make sure to get one rated for at least 15 amps.

Another option is to buy a 3-position, knob type pull switch. For what you want you'd wire the headlights to the switch's "tail light" terminal, and the rear work light to the "headlight" terminal. In operation, pulling the switch out to the first notch would give headlights only, and pulling it all the way would give both head and rear lights. Any auto parts place will have this type of switch.

A suggestion: Provide some sort of rear light (red or flashing amber) in the "headlight only" mode. Around here it is illegal to run a tractor on the road at night without one of the above showing to the rear - and it's just common sense as well.

If you need a wiring diagram for either of the above, post back and I'll shoot you a sketch. ...Bob M

Bob thanks for the reply. If you don't mind could you shoot me a wiring sketch on the toggle switch? I agree with you on the flashing amber lights. I had thought of puting those on the fenders, they are required here too. I would guess I'd have to install a flasher unit, but I'll probably be asking again when I get into that. I know theses things are not original, but these is a working tractor. I'm just making it functional. Again thanks Bob you've been a great help.

Flasher unit is an easy install. Just go to an auto parts store and tell them you want a flasher for hazard lights on a tractor. Costs about $4 and you just wire it in before the lights.

Another place to get double pole double throw (DPDT) switches is from partsexpress.com just do a search for DPDT switch diagram and you will find what they look like.
