Looking at a old international tractor that is for sale for $500.00. The model number is F806D and the serial number is 13421 S-Y. What does the "F" on the model number and the "S-Y" on the serial number stand for. Also what year is this tractor. The oil in the crankcase has water that the owner says got in through the exhaust manifold since the muffler was off and the tractor has been standing out in a field. I have not tried turning over the crank yet. Do you think this is a good buy for the price or should I keep looking for a better buy. Any help would be greately appreciated

It sounds like a good deal. $500.00 even if the engine is shot is pretty reasonable. You didn't say how long it has been sitting in the field. If it has had water in the engine for a winter or 2 . I would have serious doubts about the engine being salvagable. The bright side is lots of engines are available for IH tractors of that vintage. You should also look at engines out of other IH equipment. The gas engine in my 706 is out os 915 combine. I am sure the same interchanges are possible with diesels. Good luck.

It's a Farmall 806 Diesel. The "F" is for Farmall. IH called their Row-Crop tractors Farmall's and called their Standard (Wheatland, Utility, or Industrial) tractors International's. If it was an 806 Wheatland, it would have an "I" instead of the "F" on the model number plate.

The "D" is for Diesel, of course.

The "S" is a serial number suffix meaning that the tractor is equipped with a Torque Amplifier. The TA is IH's version of a powershift transmission attachment. It gives you two speeds in each gear and it can be shifted on the go without clutching. It is controled by the lever on the left side of the steering tower. When the lever is ahead, the tractor is in direct drive. Pulling the lever toward yourself engages the TA, slowing the tractor down and giving it more pulling power.

The "Y" means the tractor is equipped with a 12 gallon per minute hydraulic pump. Most IH tractors have this pump.

Forgot to say, according to the serial number list on this website, found by clicking on "Serial Numbers" under "Research & Info" on the left side of the screen, it's a 1964 model.

the s-y in the serial number stands for torque amplifier, or a gear reduction without haveing to clutch or downshift. if you do not want the tractor i will buy it with cash. where is it located?? derek

That sounds like a good buy to me. As long as the water in the crank is because of precipitation and not radiator fluid, you shouldn't have that much work if it was running not very long ago. I've seen a few H's running in a half hour after sitting for 15 years out side, but that diesel might be a bit tricky. I would still buy it, and make sure you post all of your findings!!! Good luck!!

It's a Farmall 806 the s-y are on most of them. They do have a meaning I don't know what they are. It sounds like a good buy to me. Where is it located? If you don't buy it I'm sure others would be interested. Thanks

Thanks for all the information folks. I bought the tractor this sunday and started cleaning it up. I have removed the engine tin and noticed the exhaust manifold is full of water. I plan to vacumm it out with a shop vac and then flood the manifold with marvel mystry oil and let it set. I also drained the crankcase and got a lot of water out. I overfilled the crankcase with some used oil I had and plan to let it sit for a while. I drained the cooling system with fresh water anf left it drained. The radiator was full so I think the water in the crankcase came in through the exhaust manifold. I would welcome any advice as to how to turn over the crank and how to lubricate the top of the pistons before turning in over. I need all the help I can get! again thank and keep the suggestions coming.
