Does anyone know if a cub will fit in a 4' by 8' pickup bed? Thanks

It will work fine. Just "pay attention." One can't have too many straps or chains to secure it. The more the better! I haven't lost or spilled a load in 50 years. However, with the cub in the back, those 30mph 90 degree turns are OUT OF THE QUESTION. Not only will it work fine, it will be a lot of fun. I was once hauling a 7 1/2HP antiqe one lunger saw rig home and stopped for lunch. When I came out, a man and his son stood by the truck and his dad was showing him, one of the earliest "tractors" he had ever seen. Guess he had never seen a portable saw rig.

Al: A cub will fit fine in a 4x8 pickup bed. I brought mine home 50 miles in my buddy's F150. As the previous posts stated, make sure to tie it down well and realize that you've got the extra weight and a higher center of gravity--don't drive it like a sports car and you'll be fine. Also, if it has a mower, this may need to come off to fit between the wheel wells.

The Cub will fit and you can close the tailgate if you drive it in forward. The front tires will fit under the lip at the front of the bed but the rear tires won't. Backed in you usually can't close the tailgate.

A half-ton pickup will handle a Cub just fine. You only have to be smart enough to recognize you have a load on the truck and don't drive it like a car, ie you should slow down in advance of needing to stop and take it easy on rough spots and curves.

If you are an idiot, hire somebody to move the tractor. In my opinion, if you can't drive easy enough to safely haul a Cub in a half-ton, when you rent a trailer you'll likely forget it's back there and have a wreck anyway.

A Cub looks real cute in a pickup, facing forward with the tailgate closed.

Your right Andy, anyone that couldn't safely haul a Cub 500 miles in a pickup probably will not be safe operating the Cub either. both require a bit of common sence.

Just to make sure nobody gets offended, I was not calling anybody an idiot, nobody thinks they are one either, and since you aren't one, you can easily haul a Cub in a pickup.

It is just as dangerous with a trailer.

I would rather send my wife down the road with a Cub on the bed instead of on a trailer.

It will fit, but tight, and weight is a problem. Do yourself a favor and rent a U-Haul 6x12 open flatbed trailer. ($24.95/day in my neck of the woods) A Cub will fit with room to spare and you can just drive right up the tailgate.

If you have what industry call a heavy half ton and have good heavy tires I would go for it. Cub only weighs around 1800 to 2000 lbs. I used to run light 3/4 ton trucks, not a lot of difference, 6800 GVW on heavy 1/2 versus 7200 GVW on light 3/4. I have hauled 3000 lbs, hundreds of miles many times. Oh yes and the Cub will fit, never hauled one but have seen a lot of guys going with a Cub on back. One guy had a cottage on a 140 acre woodlot, he used to stop in a bit. He would have Cub in back of pickup and portable bandsaw mill hooked behind. He probably had another 500 lbs packed around Cub.

It'll fit, but unless you have at least a 3/4 ton truck it's a bit of a load. Wouldn't want to go too far with it.

You're right. I amend my comments. My truck was a 1/2T HD. Sorry for the mistake. I once hauled a HD Rumley to PennsCave PA with a 3/4THD Chevy and a 3 axle tlr. That was a real load, but I never went fast and I had brakes on all 3 axles.
