Some say Farmall and some say International! What was the difference? And does anyone have pics of where the decals should go?

When the tractors came out the Farmall was the higher version which could have a culivator mounted on it. The International was the low slung version utility type that a front mount cultivator could not be used on. This was used when they came out until the end of the 06 series when they strayed away from the standartd practice .

I don't think there was ever a lo-boy version of the 140 or any of its predecessors ie A, SA, 100 and 130. These tractors Farmall and International were of the same profile. Just the paint, front axle and foot throttle were different. There were hi clearence versions which were also Farmalls The Cub had a low version called th lo-boy.

My father in law just bought what looks like a factory Farmall 140 low boy. We had never heard of one but this one has all IH parts with turf tires on front and rear. I was wondering if anyone else has ever heard of anything like this.

I think the 140 had about a 20 year production run. The earlier ag. models carried the Farmall name. The industrial models as well as the later ag. models carried the International name. Very few differences between the two ag. models. I think the story went something like that.

Later agricultural 140's were also Farmall. They just changed and had International in big letters on the hood side and Farmall in small letters over the number. The serial plate still said Farmall and the order book still said Farmall. The Industrials always said International in big letters. As stated basicly the only difference was; foot accelerator, hd front axle, and some different options.

International was the industrial version. I believe they had a heavier front axle. I know the industrial had a foot accelerator along with the hand throttle.

I think most of the International versions were built for highway departments - handy tractor for mowing.

Steven: Check the post by DV, at point when 56 series tractors started using International instead of Farmall so did the 140. I don't know what the designation for industrial was after that point or even before. I can see some confusion on this one.

Probably the early ones were same as SA, 100 and 130. Later models probably had Farmall or ?? on the number emblem. Later model 56 and 66 were that way, correct???? That 140 had quite a long production run. (1958 to 1979) I know the grill in 140 changed each time the big tractors changed to coinside, up until 56 series. I have a 1975 mini pocket size sales catalogue with 66 series tractors and 140 has early 56 series grill.

Thanks, Hugh! I don't know much past the letter series. The hundred series doesn't yet interest me much due to the torque amplifier and live PTO problems I've had with the SMTA. Simplicity helps me relax when I'm working on my H and W-9.
