I'm a city boy. I've had two fords and now have a farmall A.Farmall is not common here in pensacola .FL. I have a woods belly mower and no rear attachment. So,is a fast hitch the mechanical lift or hydraulic? Was the fast hitch an add-on? All I want is maybe a srcape blade. I'm so far south and there isn't any to see around here. Sorry to sound so stupid!

This is what the fast hitch on a Super C looks like.

Steve,

The fast hitch was IHC's version of a quick hitch for mounting rear implements. On the larger Farmall tractors it had two sockets or receivers which received the prongs which were mounted on the implement to be attached. On the Cub and the later versions of the A, such as the 140, (the fast hitch was not invented at the time of the A), the hitch consisted of a single socket or receiver which accepted a single prong which was mounted on the implement. The hitch was raised and lowered hydraulicly. I know this description is probably clear as mud to you, but I would suggest you look at some different Farmall pictures and you will be able to get an idea of what it is. On the gallery pictures of Farmalls from the rear angle the tractors should either have a standard drawbar, a three point hitch, or a fast hitch. Hope this helps you a little.

Steve,

Your Farmall A was not available with hydraulic lift. (The Super A was the first A series with hydraulic lift). Some A's did have a vacuum lift but oviously yours does not. The long lift handle you use to raise and lower your mower is what is used to raise and lower mounted implements on the A. IHC made a grader blade that could be mounted under the center of the tractor or out in front of the tractor. It was for both hydraulic lift and for manual lift. If you find one of these blades you will use the same lift handle that now lifts your mower. For rear mounted implements there is a rock shaft that is also controled by your lift handle.
