Hello,
Just enquiring whether anyone out there knows where to get the oil seal that goes on the fanshaft for a Farmall A. I removed a perished rubber seal and would like to replace it.

Thanks

Andrew

The fan shaft does not have a seal. Possibly the hub is overfilled with oil. There is a little standpipe inside the hub that sets the oil level. Remove the screw in the side of the hub and turn the fill hole to the side. fill up to the hole and then turn the hole to the bottom and let the excess oil drain out. There is a slinger inside to circulate the oil to the sleeve type bearing and centrifugal force keeps the oil from coming out at the shaft. You can have the sleeve bearing replace with a ball bearing, or you can buy a new aftermarket fan assembly that has a ball bearing in it. These replacements usually are "permanently" lubed with no grease fitting. Many of the originals are still going after 50 or 60 years, even with quite a bit of neglect. That won't happen with the ball bearing replacements. If you stick with the original, you will have to tolerate a small amount of oil residue where the shaft comes through the hub.

I don't think that seal is available anymore. Some have been repaired by replacing the original bearing with sealed ball bearings that don't need an oil seal.
