I have a 1943 "H" and was wondering what the PTO speed was, and what type of finish mower, I can use with it. I do have attached, a single hydraulic 3pt lift. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks from Oklahoma

My H runs about 600 or so at full throttle no load. I've checked it with a tach.

Aaron,

The H is 540 as everyone has said. My H is running a 6 foot finish mower with no problem -- just got in from doing it today -- so the size of any mower you're likely to find shouldn't present any difficulty.

The power take-off speed fro an H is 540 r.p.m. the belt pully speed is 1,019, the belt speed with a 9 1/2 inch diameter pulley is 2,601 feet per minute. This per the IH "H" manuel. There are different size pully's that can be used to get better spped or less, not to long ago on this Form I believe someone gave out the formla. You might do a search of this site using the the words "belt pulley ", I did see it in the manuel but I only did a quick run though trying to jogmy memory cells. I have also seen someplace a belly mower on an "H" but can't remember were, I have a cycle bar mower on mine for cutting hay. Most people like to use an "A" , "B" , along with Cub's for cutting grass, in some case's people with large acrage lwans use "C". I gues in what you have or what you need to fit the purpose of what your doing with what you have :o) Good luck hope this helps :o)

540 rpm. No opinion on the finish mower, but you get what you pay for. One from a farm store is probably ok if you are easy on it and take care of it. Otherwise bite the bullet and get one from Woods, or a similar brand.

Woods mowers are pretty low quality. Befco is much better.

If that's true then the quality has deterioated. I have a Woods belly mount on a Super A that could probably fall off a building without hurting it -- very heavy construction.

I want to thank all of you for the great information. 540 RPM's on the PTO looks to be what my '43 H has. As far as the mower goes, the WOODS or the BEFCO both look good. The BEFCO looks to be more of a commerical mower. With only 3 Acres arround the house it looks like a 6 or 7 footer would work. Which means that I need to move my tires back toward the tractor and not all the way out. The "H" is really overkill, but I got to use what I have in these slow ecomonic times. New tractors cost money and the "H" is paid for and running good
Thanks again for such quick and helpful information. Aaron from Mounds, OK.
