My torque is slipping in my Intl. 400 and i was wondering how much it would cost to rebuild or buy a new one somewhere. I was thinking it was around $700 but im not sure where to get a good one that will hold up. Does anyone know what usually goes bad on them and if maybe if could be fixed for a decent price because i have a hard time believing that the whole assemble goes out. I was thinking mabe the clutch needs replace. Let me know your thoughts and past experiences on this. Thanks Adam

I did the same on my '55 400 gas, i just went into our case IH dealer, and they got me a totaly rebuilt torque, and clutch pad, and pressure plate. Yes it was about $700, and it comes with a one year waranty. I put in all new seals and gasgets, just so i won't have to wory about that part of the tractor anymore. to split it, you have to undo the engine, you might have to make a stand with wheels to roll it away, the mid section, in front with the two big bolt holes with threads in, put two peices of angle iron down to the floor, and the back of the mid section, hang a chain hoist from the ceiling or anything with some height, with a peice of channel iron with a hook in the middle, to connect your chain hoist, and a hook on the opposite side towards each end, and put a chain on the hooks, and hook onto the back of the midsection, and the back put a floorlift jack. thats what i did, and had no trouble.

Adam, usally when the TA goes out it is the overrun clutch (ramp and roller assembly). Your TA clutch could be slipping but that is usally not the case. I have replaced the ramp and roller assembly on all three of my tractors to the heavy duty sprague overrun clutch. You can have your present TA rebuild with the sprague unit by Richard M. Bednarski, 215 Buffalo Rd So., Washington, Pa 15301. Phone # 724 345-3546 or 800 832-6350 in the evenings. I replaced both main and TA clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearigs all seals and gaskets plus had Richard rebuild the TA with Sprague overrun clutch for $892.00 Once you split your tractor you usually don't want to have to do it again.
