I just bought a Farmall MD and instead of a regular gas tank cap it has a cap on the diesel tank that has a gauge built in it. The gauge is in perfect shape but the cork is gone. i was wondering if this was standard with these or if it was an option. What is it worth? Also would a kerosne tank cap fit the gas tank on this tractor?
Thank You, Adam

Adam,

I have NOS cork floats if you are interested and want to replace yours. I would highly recommend you restore the original gauge, if the rest of it works.

I remember those gauges. They worked good. The cork was held by two rods that fit grooves in the sides of the cork, so it would float straight up and down. The inside of the cork had a metal spiral through it, and that spiral was attached to the dial of the gauge. As the cork moved up and down the scale, the spiral would turn, and move the needle. We had one on the M and since the M would use a tank of gas when worked hard, it was handy to be able to check mid day.

Someone in the past ( i wont mention my dad and uncle) used some sort of funnel that engaged the gas cap opening on the tank of (then my grandfathers)SM, and set a can of gas on it , goofing up the opening. When the gas sloshes it lets a little out of the tank, so when the top of the tank dries off I go for more gojuice
