I have a 45 H that needs repair to water pump & hoses. How do I remove the fan blades from the front of water pump? Can this be done without removing the water pump & blades as a unit?

Thanks for the help. The entire assembly came off after the pin was driven out. After taking the water pump off I've discovered that the sheave that turns to tighten or loosen the fan belt is cracked. How can this be replaced? Does this part come off the hub?

You must loosen the fan belt first, there is a set screw on the the pully, loosen theis screw an turn the out side part(closest to the fan) counter clockwise to loosen. Then there are 4 bolts on the front of fan blade, remove those, fan will come off along with pully. You may have to tap on it a bit, also lookout for your knuckles, it's a tight fit. You will then be able to see the water pump an the bolts to remove it. Case/IH dealers have the bearing an gaskets if you need them. If you look at my Epson site I have a 43 an 42 H apart with pictures of the pump an fan listed there, might make it easier if you look at that first :o), hope it helps you.

Thanks for your reply. The I shaped piece with the two springs that go over two of the bolts, does this come off? It moves in & out about 1/2 inch and has a bolt through the top of it. Does this hold it on?

Yes, an Yes, make sure to clean up the side pins, replace the hose on the pump along with the clamps. In the 42 H folder on my Epson site about the thrid picture down there is a very good picture of the front of the fan as well the set screw that you have to loosen to adjust out the front of the pully

To answer your questions - yes, and yes.

The bolt "through the top" is the end of a tapered pin that goes in a flat spot on the impeller shaft. The pin HAS to come out before the piece will come off the shaft. Being tapered, the pin can be wedged in there pretty tight. To get mine out, I loosened the nut until it came out flush with the end of the pin and used a large brass punch to hit the nut. Once it moved, the nut was removed and a small punch drove it the rest of the way out.

If your impeller shaft moves in and out ½" then your thrust washer/impeller is probably badly worn. The two little springs on the long bolts are supposed to hold the impeller away from the block and near the pump housing to better move coolant.

There is a poor attempt of a picture of the assembly in the Parts and Pieces page. Punch the link below.
