I am replacing my 88 EXP stock exhaust manifold with a header and need to know if the metal tube that runs back to the intake area has to stay attached. The header has the same tube in a different location. Can this tube be clamped?

Tom -
I have a similar problem with an AC D10 I have. I have been unsuccessful locating an aftermarket one which would be most beneficial.

For my repairs here is what I am planning to do based on comments received from ytmag contributors.

Remove manifold
Chip hole back to good metal
Clean up area real good
Heat Manifold to approx. 800f (BBQ grill)
Clamp it to my work bench
Weld it up by running small bead around hole
Let weld cool and run another stringer bead around hole. Let cool, continue to weld and cool until hole eliminate.
Clean up welds and reinstall manifold
Rod is ferral nickle 3/32"

furnace cement. ask for it at an old hardware store. won't stand up to vibration forever but I've had good success on show tractors.

Tom, I have had manifolds welded with the proper cast rods and they have held, but the best thing I ever did was buy a new one...you cannot believe how much better the tractor will run..better flow and distribution to the chambers, with a new manifold. A good welding shop should be able to patch you up, then you should get it planed and new gaskets...and a new one won't be that much more...Good luck with your manifold...Mike in Exeter Ontario
