I was at a show yesterday and someone had a Farmall M that was yellow. It was a narrow fronted (2-wheels) rowcrop and was supposedly an industrial version of the M. Would an industrial tractor have a narrow front? I think someone said it was an airforce towing tractor. Does any of that make sense to you or did someone just want to paint a Farmall yellow to be different?

It doesn't have to be an industrial version to be used for industrial purposes. Chances are the govt agency or company ordered an M or SM painted yellow. I agree that the narrow front would make sense for parking airplanes.

The airbase at Cold Lake had several yellow /orange super M's that were sold . I know of one that was restored last winter. What show was it at?

It was at Westlock. There is a fairly active club up there I think. Nice little show, not big as compared to Leduc or Irricana but pretty good. Do you live up in the Cold Lake area? My son lives in Bonnyville, he just moved to town from a nearby acreage up there.

The industrial version of an M was an I-6, which looked an awful lot like a W-6. I too have a Farmall M which is yellow, but it did not come from the factory that way, I know the history of this tractor, and why it is yellow, I also know that it is red underneath because the paint is flaking.
I-H would paint any color you wanted per special order, but since the tractor in question is a row-crop model, I doubt if it was originally yellow, and you can put a super M decal on anything.

Mike, IH would paint a tractor any color you ordered, lots of State tractors were painted yellow, some white, some orange so you may run acrossed different colors from time to time, just what was ordered from the factory or dealer at the time an buy who. I have seen WD9's painted battleship gray an blue used by the Navy :o)

Mike: It could be that someone has changed the front end to narrow. If it was used as a towing tractor around planes, in and out of hangers, etc., I can see the narrow front being a big benefit. I know during my years farming when it came to manuvering wagons, equipment, etc. the old Farmall with the narrow front was far more beneficial than all the power steering in the world. You could also be right, may be someone just painted it that way.
