JUST GOT MY (A) DRIVEABLE AFTER MANY HOURS OF WORK AND LOTS OF $$$ AFTER PUTTING AROUND THE FINAL DRIVES ARE NOISEY, I HAVE HAD BOTH OF THEM COMPLETLY TORE DOWN FOR SEAL REPLACEMENT, IS THE NOISE NORMAL FOR THE (A) OR DID I BUNG SOMTHING UP WHEN I PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER ?

Not sure that I agree with the other two posters. I have three of these tractors, and one of them is definately more noisey than the other two. You indicate you have just rebuilt these, so probably your noise is caused from wear on gears. They are all noisier in reverse than forward.

If you happen to have looseness in the bearings check it out as I have seen two of these tractors break casting of final drive from gears trying to jump a tooth.

In my experience, the whole driveline, transmission, rear end, and final drives are pretty noisey on the A's. Probably normal.

Those straight cut gears are noisy..which is pretty normal

The A final drives are noisy which is normal. Reason is IH made a running change from machined gears to cast gears due to production cost. The cast gears are simply noisy.
