What is the name of the "button" that is pushed in on the IH starters to kick over the starter?? For the life of me, I cannot explain to a farm dealer what I am looking for..he's trying to send me magnetos, and alternators....I just want the darn swithc the battery cable is hooked to, that kicks over the starter when you pull on the starting lever.. What is its correct name?
Thanx
Ken

For 6 volt Cubs, serial number 224400 and below, LO-Boy serial number 18700 and below (this covers the vast majority of all Cubs ever made), the "Switch assembly, starting" is part number 1 922 609. This number is unlikely to help anywhere other than a Case/IH dealer- if there is such a thing anymore. Take your old one to show it to the parts person- no matter where you buy the new one.

Starting switch Delco # 1918405 is listed in "A" parts book. The starter switch lever is mounted on the switch.

You need a Standard Ignition (Brand Name) SS-522.

Any auto parts store worth their salt will be able to order you that number, or cross it to their store brand (NAPA, etc.). Typical cost... $15.00 to $35.00. When you replace it, be sure the copper stud in the starter that the switch contacts is not too badly eroded away, or you're looking at a trip to an automotive electrical shop to have the stud replaced.

It's a starter switch. Tell them that it is the kind that is engaged by a pull rod. If they can't get that right mabey you should look for a different place to buy parts. Try your Case-IH dealership.

Ken --i think the word you'r looking for is - starter "SELANOID" ...at any rate ,i'd give the parts man a hard time on that one! can't believe anyone selling parts would'nt know what your talking about (even without the correct terminology! )

It's definetly NOT a starter soleniod. A soleniod is controled electronicly by turning a key or pushing a button. The soleniod passes power to the starter and also engages the starter drive to the flywheel's ring gear. He is looking for the old pull rod controlled switch, which is nothing but a switch. It's only job is to pass power to the starter.

Ken Lets try again. On a W9 I think what you want is just called a switch, but there are 6 parts for a complet assy. Page 209 in W9 parts book will show what you are looking for I think. HTH Morgan

Fen. What you are looking for is called a starting switch lever. I have been told that I/H used the same lever on most tractors that used that type of starter sys. Binder Books has parts and owner manuals. HTH Morgan
