I have a Farmall A with the serial number FAA145576 stamped on the block. I believe this means Model A, and that it was bult in '45. Is this correct?

It also has a HA5 stamped directly below the serial number. Does anyone know what it means?

Thanks, Tim

Guy Fay's Data Book says HA means high altitude cylinder heads, but no mention is made of a 5.

At least the engine was made in 1945. Look for casting date code of 3*16*O which would be March 16th, and the O would be 1945. The casting dates are strewn throughout the tractor

The block and head both have "O" date codes so that puts them both in '45. The block was built in May '45, and the head was August '45.

Does anyone know where the date codes are on the rest of the machine? On the transmission, clutch housing, etc.?

Thanks

Well,
Yes and No. Yes it is a late 1945 model, but no, the digits '45' in the serial number aren't what determine it. The year is determined by the tractor serial number. First, that is the engine number which in this case should match the tractor serial number (not all do). You should find a matching number on a plate under the seat on the left seat support. If you go in the 'Research & Info' section on your left, and go to 'Serial Numbers', then Farmall, then find the A & B series. The table lists the manufacturing year and a starting serial number. 1946 started with #146700, 1945 started with #113218.
The HA5 will be documented in the parts book which I don't have in front of me at the moment.
