Kindfolk:

Changed my fuel sediment bowl( 1960 Cub) and connected assembly last Saturday. New one had flat strainer across top of bowl , all external to the tank. Old one which I was too impatient to remount inside the tank was left off. Any views or experience on whether the flat one will work as well or better than the old conical one?

Thanks

Kajun

Thanks for the help. Agree leaking sediment bowl is expensive proposition at cost of gasoline today. Gonna leave my new one alone , I suppose, until I break something like I did last saturday.

I had problems with my original leaking fuel by to the carb when it was shut and got an aftermarket one and it leaked worse and also leaked all over the transmission. I finaly got sick of it and a couple days ago got a ball valve that has teflon seats and a nice big red handle and I put it on with an inline cleanable fuel filter off my race car. It works perfect and has a lot of bennefits. One it doesn't let water collect in the tank because it has no standpipe. two when I close it it is closed good. three no more leaks messing up my paint.

The ball valve is not a bad idea, but if there is any kind of rust or other crud in the tank, the crud will settle directly into the inlet of your ball valve and stop all fuel flow before the fuel can get to the inline filter. This is very annoying, I realize that you have cleaned you tank, and maybe even put the liner in it, but I will guarantee you did not get all of the rust out of it, I strongly suggest you stay with a sediment bowl and strainer screen, and find out why it is leaking and fix it.

Where did you get the ball valve, or specifically what did you use? I looked for something better when replacing the original unit on my A, but finally bought an original replacement. It is a pain to turn on and off.
Thanks,
Bill

We have a hose supply place next door to where I work. It Was about 3 dollars for me but i don't think list price is much more. It is all brass, rated for 600 WOG. The handle is about 5 inches long and easily turns 45 degrees to open or shut positions. You will have to rig hose and an inline filter but In my opinion anything you can do to minimize the possibility of a fuel leak is good money spent and something to forget about originality on. sediment bowls are nice looking and all but not very good by todays standards. The inline filter I use is about 2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide, made of glass and brass. It has a much finer screen in it than an original sed bowl and is cleanable. I think I got it from Link for about 10 dollars. The valve I got had a 3/8 pipe fitting on the end and I had to adapt up to the 1/2 in for the gas tank with a brass fitting. The other end I put a 5/16 hose barb on and attached a hose there. I will take a pic and email you if you want.
