Not sure what You mean by "TIN RIMS" but the rear rims were rolled steel double bevel rims and the 460/560's also had Power Adjust rear rims available with six "Z" shaped bars that clamped the rim in different tread widths to the cast iron wheel centers. ALL rear rims were PAINTED Silver by the rim manufacturers, either Electric Wheel Co. in Quincy,IL. or French & Hecht Co. in Davenport, IA. The front wheels used by FARMALL on the 460/560's were all six bolt steel disc wheels painted 2150 IH red bolted to a cast iron front hub. The H&M's, 300/400's and 350/450's all used a silver painted front rim with a riveted mallable iron flange which bolted to a three spoke cast center wheel that offered four different mounting tread widths, or a simple silver painted rim which clamped on similarly to the rear rims on the H's and M's.

It sounds to me as though he is talking about pressed steel rear wheels we saw come into use as duals in the late 60s. I believe these were around much longer than that and were used in applications wanting to keep weight down. I have seen tractors equiped with these for operating power equipment on peat moss farms. A particular series doesn't stand out, but can remember wheels like this may be as far back as 60s.

Some of the later 560s came from the factory with stamped rims that bolted to a hub that was clamped the axle. These rims look similar (or are the same) as the duals used on a 656. They are lighter (cheaper) then the rim & and cast iron wheel center combination and probably easier to work with. I have seen several though that have the center where you bolt to th hub broken out. I have also seen damage to holes where you bolt the weights on.

My dad bought a Farmall 656 in the mid 1960's and it had the pressed steel wheels. He had the dealer get him the regular cast iron ones and replace the pressed steel ones. Roger

If I remember right those were a 16X34 wheel for 18.4X34 tires. They were still used up till the end of the 686/H86 production. If I remember right the bare wheel was part number 530298R1, made by Electric Wheel. It was a distinctive wheel because it was the only rear steel disc wheel IH used with five contact points between the disc and rim. I'm not sure if that part number is old enough to be 460/560 vintage or not. My newest "OLD" parts book is a 300/350 book and My oldest "NEW" parts book is a X66-series book. Since the M/SM/400/450/560/656/666/686 all used 2-3/4" axles the wheel & hub would fit any of those models.
