Early Farmall Regular Identification

Hello all, and hope you can help. I recently picked up an early McCormick Deering Regular which I was told is 1922 or 1923. In looking over the internet, I've seen identical looking tractors advertised as late as 1939.

There is a number stamped into the engine on the intake side. The number is OC31351 . I can't find a number on the toolbox. There is also a casting number in the engine, above a mark. The mark appears to be a "W" with a superimposed "T". The number is 423DA. There is also a number on the spark plug side of the frame, in front of the radiator. That number appears to be 523DA, but it is slightly illegible. The steering gear is above and forward of the radiator.

I've searched the serial number data on the site here, but still remain slightly confused. Any help?

As always, thank you!

Well, if the "OC" on the engine block is actually a "QC" (probably pretty hard to tell from the casting) it is indeed a Farmall Regular. If the engine number matches the chassis number, you'd have a 1928. A 1922 Farmall would be a very different looking tractor than the traditional Farmall Regular- there were a few preproduction tractors built in 1922 and I've never seen a real one in existence-Harry Lee built a nice replica.. 1923s were also a preproduction thing- IH built just over twenty of them, two of which are known to still exist. They do look noticibly lighter in construction than regular production, which started in late 1923 for the 1924 season.

I may know of a third 23.. I was offered one just over a year ago for $10,000, but that kind of money for a stuck tractor just didn't interest me.. The pictures of the tractor did show the correct 23 features, and the tractor was located in texas... On another note, one of the dealerships I bought out in southern Illinois had quite a few transmission gears for the 1923 transmission. I honestly think this was a parts order error. I have also been offered a 24 regular in the past year, but $5,500 for a stuck tractor with a cracked block didn't interest me either.

If the steering gear is open it is a Farmall Regular, if closed then one of the F models.
