Ok Guys bet you have heard this before but I need help. I just took my 1945 BN to the fair and have noticed that with all the new paint and new parts it looks great from the out side But the engine? I have left that for this winter for a complete rebuild. I found four other BN's in the show and not one of them looks like mine. Guess being a racer and restorer of Chrysler big block performace car i should be able to figure this out but go figure the city boy moved to the county some time ago and fell in love with old tractors.

Ok the real question. Where and what do i need to collect to figure out what engine is in my little red BN. I can tell you that the engine has a dip stick to the left of the oil filter ( completly unuseable with the steering shaft in the way). Just to the left of that the block has a cut out which on a car engine looks to be a place where a starter would go. It looks as if someone has made a sheet metal cover to keep dirt from entering the clutch assembly. Also the two mounting bolts on that side are spaced about 1.5 inchs wider then the other BN's.

Hope someone can help.

If it's an IH motor, the casting number is behind the oil filter, someone should be able to tell you if you post that number. I'm guessing the engine is a C135, or C153 from a swather, which will bolt up with some modification..

The engine that you have could of come out of a power unit or a combine and some of the older balers had them too I think. My Nephew has the same style block in his super A and I think its a C-123. I know it has 3 1/4 flat tops in it. The power unit engine were called U something oh well have fun with old girl!

If the engine is one of the ones that have been noted is this some worth rebuilding and keeping or will I be better off looking for the correct motor for the old girl. (boy if my wife reads these old girl statements am I going to catch hell)

I would say the motor is a keeper and worth rebuilding the price of the parts are the same. If you want look up another motor but don't throw away the one you have. Sorry about the old girl statement that what I call mine. (tractor that is)
